1970s Sea World attractions 1970s
The 1976/1977 WDW Vacationland features a colorful and oh-so-1970s ad for Sea World. It’s still somewhat of a shock to see Disney allowing advertising from a competitor, but during the first decade of Walt Disney World, leadership wanted to be a good neighbor to all of the Florida attractions. What were some of the 1970s Sea World attractions?
What was there to do at Sea World in 1976?
A World of Things to See and Do
- See Shamu® the killer whale in his star-spangled Yankee Doodle Whale show. He’ll sign the Declaration of Independence and put the crack in the Liberty Bell. It’s a dandy way to celebrate America’s birthday.
- Make new friends. Pet a dolphin or a deer. Feed a friendly seal and if you don’t mind getting a little wet, shake hands with a starfish.
- Meet Google the elephant seal…the world’s heaviest rock musician.
- Take a ride on Florida’s tallest hi-rise, the SkyTower. You’ll look down on 125 acres of beautiful Sea World scenery, plus a breathtaking panorama of Central Florida.
- Wander through a peaceful Japanese village where graceful Ama girls dive deep into the water to bring you real pearls.
- Witness the magical one-of-a-kind Fountain Fantasy Theater. A breathtaking spectacle of water, lights, color and sound.
- SEE THE GREAT WHITE SHARK—we are pleased to present this impressive 16 foot specimen for public display and education. Get a close look at our exhibit and learn more about this formidable creature
Sea World: Exciting shows in a relaxed atmosphere.
Besides the confusing image of Shamu wearing a trim-corner hat, it’s interesting to see how Sea World advertised their offerings. There were no roller coasters. The park offered shows, exhibits and encounters. Sea World opened in 1973, so it was still a relatively new park in 1976.
